Scholarships for a Surgical Technician

Surgical technicians are another name for surgical technologists. Other names for them include scrubs or operating room technicians. Under the supervision of surgeons, surgical technicians assist in surgical operations. Surgical technicians must also set up and prepare the equipment and instruments that are necessary for surgery. Students learn this career by studying at a community college, junior college, vocational school or university. Some schools and organizations will offer scholarships for those who want to become surgical technicians.

    • This association offers many opportunities for students who are interested in becoming surgical technicians. Both students and practitioners can apply for these scholarships to fund their education or continuing education. Scholarships include the Foundation for Surgical Technology Scholarship, the Foundation for Surgical Technology Advanced Education/Medical Mission Scholarship, the New Educator Scholarship, Didactic Educator of the Year Award and the Clinical Educator of the Year Award. Students and practitioners must follow directions for downloading and applying for these scholarships.

    North Colorado Medical Center Foundation

    • This organization provides a scholarship program to surgical technician students. To receive consideration for this scholarship, students must meet the prerequisite requirements and receive acceptance at Aims Community College. They must also be taking the surgical technology program. Other requirements include being a citizen of the United States. The scholarship provides students with tuition assistance, textbook fee assistance and relative program fees. Scholarship recipients must seek a career as a Certified Surgical Tech at the North Colorado Medical Center once they complete their degrees.

    The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting

    • They award a surgical technology scholarship in order to help students advance academically and professionally. This is to only assist students who are pursuing their education at a NBSTSA-recognized surgical technology and surgical-assisting degree program. Rewards include $1,000 (full) and $500 (partial) scholarship awards. They award the scholarships annually before the AST National Conference. The application requirements include completing and signing the application, showing proof of attendance at a NBSTSA-recognized program, official transcripts including GPA, submitting an essay and including letters of recommendation.
