Aviva Institute is located in Duluth, Minn., and is accredited by the Midwifery Education and Accreditation Council, or MEAC. The program has been designed to satisfy the requirements of the Midwives Alliance of North America. The institute also offers specialized training to doulas or midwifery support, lactation and mother-care professionals. Other courses include introduction to herbal medicine and herbal medicine for childbearing. The midwifery course is a certificate and four-year bachelor's program. Other course offerings in midwifery include birth emergency skills training and intrapartum fetal assessment training. Prospective students can enroll in the two-semester prerequisite for midwifery course to familiarize themselves with the basics of midwifery. Course offerings include anatomy and physiology, and essentials of medical terminology.

Based in New Mexico, the National College of Midwifery is also a MEAC-accredited online program. Degrees in midwifery are offered at the associate, undergraduate and graduate levels. The associate program provides a basic foundation in midwifery; students must complete 107.75 hours to satisfy the requirements for an associate degree. Advanced courses in midwifery are research-based, and take one to five years to complete. In addition to their coursework, students in advanced midwifery training are required to complete at least 10 births under the supervision of a preceptor.

The Midwifery Institute of Philadelphia University was established in 1996, and provides master's and post-master's degree training in midwifery. The two-year master's program is composed of six terms of theoretical and integrated training, and four terms of clinical training. Course offerings include advanced anatomy and physiology, embryology and genetics, postpartum/newborn care, and full scope midwifery. Students have the option of taking the two-year full time course on a part-time basis to complete their training within three years. Candidates who already hold a master's degree in a health-related field are eligible to enroll in the post-master's certificate in midwifery.
