Mechanical Training Schools

Mechanical training schools are for people wishing to pursue a career as a auto, motorcycle or marine mechanic. In addition to mechanical schools (which solely offer mechanical programs), many technical colleges and vocational schools offer automotive technology programs that lead to career as a mechanic. According to Salary.com, the average salary for mechanics in the U.S. is $37,000, as of 2011.
  1. Universal Technical Institute

    • Universal Technical Institute is a nationwide mechanical school with 14 campus locations in 6 states. Some of the campus locations are in major cities such as Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. UTI also operates other mechanical colleges including Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI), Marine Mechanics Institute (MMI) and NASCAR Technical Institute (NTI). All campus locations are accredited by The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). UTI offers three programs of study: diesel and industrial technology, automotive technology and collision repair/refinish technology. Motorcycle, marine and NASCAR mechanic programs are available at each of the corresponding campus locations.     Lincoln Group of Schools

    • The Lincoln Group of Schools is a nationwide group of schools that offers a variety of mechanical programs at 12 of it's 43 campus locations, including the Nashville Auto-Diesel School. Mechanical programs offered by Lincoln are automotive tech, collision repair, diesel, high performance and motorcycle technology. In addition, the school offers financial aid, career planning and job placement services. All Lincoln campus locations are accredited either by ACCSC (Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges) or by ACICS (Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools).

    WyoTech

    • WyoTech, formerly known as Wyoming Technical Institute, is a private mechanical technical school with six campus locations in California, Florida, Pennsylvania and Wyoming. WyoTech is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). The college offers mechanical programs in automotive, diesel, collision, motorcycle and marine. Each program takes about a year and a half to complete and has a set of sub-specialties that students can choose to specialize in such as applied service management, trim and upholstery, power-train and street rod/custom fabrication, to name a few. WyoTech offers financial aid and career services.

    New York Automotive and Diesel Institute

    • New York Automotive and Diesel Institute is located in New York City. According to the school's website, it has the only ASE Certified auto-body program in New York City. ADI offers diploma programs in master automotive and diesel, master certified automotive, certified automotive, master truck and diesel, master certified collision repair and certified truck and diesel. Programs take 12 to 24 months to complete, with master technician programs taking 18 to 24 months. ADI is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT) and is licensed by the New York State Education Department.
