Colleges for Criminological Psychology Degrees

Also known as forensic psychology, criminal psychologists specialize in providing legal and psychological assistance to individuals in correctional facilities. They also serve as expert witnesses during legal proceedings. Students wishing to pursue a degree in forensic psychology must enroll in a psychology doctoral program or obtain a master's degree in clinical psychology.

    • Located in New York City, John Jay College is a part of the City University of New York (CUNY). The doctoral program in forensic psychology is a sub field that is offered at the College of Criminal Justice. Students can enroll in either the Clinical Forensic Psychology or Experimental Forensic Psychology programs. Candidates enrolled in the Clinical Forensic Psychology program must complete 90 credits of coursework in order to successfully complete their training. Students enrolled in the Experimental Psychology program must complete 60 course credits and conduct independent research towards their dissertation. The Experimental Psychology program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in forensic research.

    Chicago School of Forensic Psychology

    • The Chicago School of Professional Psychology provides specialized courses in fields such as Marital and Family Therapy, Organizational and Business Psychology, and Gerontology. The Clinical Psychology program at the Chicago School of Forensic Psychology is a full-time doctoral program that provides students with the opportunity to conduct practical and theoretical research. The course is designed to fulfill the requirements for the national licensure examination in clinical psychology. In addition to offering a doctoral program, the school also provides a master's training in Forensic Psychology, which runs for two years on a full-time basis, and a five-month online certificate course.

    Florida Institute of Technology

    • The Florida Institute of Technology is one of the few institutions to offer a bachelor's program in Forensic Psychology. The coursework is designed to prepare students for work in entry-level jobs such as social work and law enforcement. Students will receive training in a variety of fields related to forensic psychology including: criminology, criminal justice, research methods, psychology, and elective courses. Other areas of study will focus on themes such as crime analysis, juvenile delinquency, criminal investigations, and American criminal justice. Candidates who are enrolled in other programs wishing to minor in Forensic Psychology must complete 19 credit hours of coursework.
