The International Foundation for Science provides research grants for scientists in developing nations undertaking work related to conservation, management, and sustainability of water and biological resources. The grants are designed to improve living conditions in developing nations and enhance public infrastructure by providing consistent and efficient drinking, bathing, and cleaning water to citizens, and protecting biological resources for the benefit of the respective nations. Researchers in every Latin American country other than Mexico, Argentina, and Uruguay are eligible to apply for these grants. Applicants from Latin American countries must be younger than 40 years of age, have at least a master’s degree or equivalent educational credentials, and be attached to a university, national research organization, or non-governmental organization (NGO).

The Geological Society of America provides partial funding for graduate science reseachers from the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central America. Researchers from eight Latin American countries are eligible for research grants intended to help fund geological thesis and dissertation projects in a maximum amount of $4,000. GSA stipulates that grant money be used exclusively for research projects, and not for basic expenditures such as tuition and housing. Applicants must be GSA members to be considered for a research grant.

The Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham provides grants for scientific research pertaining to the health and health disparities of Latin and Latino American populations within the United States, as conducted by a Latin American or Latino American researcher. The Charles Barkley Health Disparity Research Grant awards $30,000 to eligible researchers with well-defined proposals of scientific merit. To be eligible, the applicant must be an instructor, assistant professor, or associate professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Alabama, Tuskegee University, or the Morehouse School of Medicine.
