Choosing a research topic to write for a thesis depends on a number of factors (not least what kind of specialization the nurse's degree will have). The feasibility of the research topic will be one of the main considerations in the mind of the individual. In feasibility, this means whether the individual can effectively research enough and write about the finding in the time allocated; money considerations, especially if traveling is involved; and the individual's level of interest in the subject. If these three criteria are met for a particular research topic, it will be a good one to choose.
Health promotion is one of the topics available as a research topic for a student nurse. The study of health promotion is the study of general aspects of the health care industry i.e. the level and quality of health education, the structure of the industry and how is has been or could be improved and the previous efforts made at health promotion. This kind of study would involve a large amount of interaction with former and current patients as well as other employees and authority figures in the health care industry.
Another good research topic for student nurses is biobehavioral health research. This involves the investigation of factors i.e. social, cultural and biological that potentially has an impact on the level of health in an individual or a population in a certain area. This type of research topic would include extensive research on either one area or a collection of areas, preferable areas that have a history of ill health i.e. a community that has a high percentage of individual contracting cancer or cardiovascular diseases.
The study of chronic illnesses is one of the more personal research topics, as it involves the investigation of not so much the medical aspect of chronic illness, but more the external effect in has on the individual and their family members. One part of such a study would be on the traits in the individual that make it difficult to function as a normal member of society, while another part would concentrate on the effects of chronic illness on dependants and other individuals close to the affected person.
