The H. John Heinz III Charitable Trust provides small grants for archaeological research in Mexico and Central and South America. The mission is to provide funding to research projects that address the deterioration of archaeological sites and to bolster Latin American archaeological research, institutions and cultural centers. Only four or five projects are funded per year and priority is given to those that can be completed in one field session.
The National Geographic Society started in 1888 to help preserve and conserve the environment. It is well known for its support of, among others, anthropological and archaeological research. The National Geographic Society/Waitt Grants are provided to researchers in need of funding for projects supporting the mission of National Geographic, including research in the field of Mesoamerican antiquities. They have a special expedited grant approval process and accept applications on a rolling basis.
The Young Explorers Grants are funding resources provided to researchers between the ages of 18 to 25 by the National Geographic Society. Applicants are not required to have advanced degrees, but are expected to have experience in their field. The Young Explorers Grants are unique because they provide funding to an age range that is not usually covered by other grants and is not limited to U.S. citizens. Applications are accepted year-round, but must be submitted at least eight months before your expected start date.
