Colleges With HVAC Degree Programs

Graduates from a HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) program are trained to install, repair and maintain office and household electrical systems such as heaters, air conditioners and refrigeration systems. In addition to attending an accredited program, HVAC graduates are also required to pass state specific certification exams. Numerous vocational schools nationwide offer HVAC programs; some schools also provide online instruction.
  1. Milwaukee Area Technical College

    • Milwaukee Area Technical College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The HVAC associate in applied science degree program at Milwaukee Area Technical College is designed to prepare students for entry-level careers in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Students receive a comprehensive training in mathematics, electronics, thermodynamics and drafting. HVAC students can also apprentice at an approved employer for credit. All of the credits from the program are transferable to a four-year college. Graduates from the HVAC program work as sales engineers, air conditioning technicians, system supervisors and system designers. Prospective applicants should have a high school diploma and one-year of high school level algebra. In addition, applicants will be required to take a basic-skills admissions proficiency assessment. Course highlights include heating systems, electrical fundamentals, air conditioning fundamentals and welding fundamentals for HVAC.

    Ferris State University

    • Ferris State University has seven campuses in different parts of Michigan. The university offers a two-year, upper-sequence HVAC program that leads to a Bachelor of Science degree. Students in the program receive up-to-date training in evaluating different types of heating and ventilation systems for commercial and industrial buildings. In addition to classroom training, students also receive hands-on instruction at an on-campus lab or at various western Michigan businesses and industries. Graduates from the program will be well equipped to work at manufacturing, contracting, engineering and commercial firms. In addition, graduates from Ferris State University's associate degree program are eligible to enroll in the HVAC bachelor's degree training. Eligible candidates should have a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and demonstrate computer literacy skills as well as having taken college level algebra and trigonometry.

    Joliet Junior College

    • Joliet Junior College is located in Illinois, and offers a variety of technical programs in fields such as architecture, construction, electronics and automotive services. Students enrolled in the HVAS associate degree in applied science program specialize in the commercial aspect of building management and operation. The program also provides training in hands-on simulated technology, and prepares graduates to qualify for their industry competency exams (ICE) in residential and commercial HVAC systems.
