Masters Programs in Maine Colleges

Maine features both public and private colleges and universities that offer students the option to pursue graduate-level education. The University of Maine is the main public institution for secondary education, with six locations throughout Maine. Other academic institutions that offer master's programs include the Maine College of Art and the University of New England.

    • The University of Maine offers a Master of Arts degree program in liberal studies that can be completed on a part-time or full-time basis. This program is designed for the professional who seeks further studying opportunities to investigate the complex issues that are associated with her interests or work. Some professionals that benefit from this program are teachers or librarians who wish to pursue an alternative route in graduate studies outside of education.     Maine College of Art

    • Maine College of Art has a Master of Fine Arts degree program in studio arts that offers students the option to complete the program in medium or high residency. All students in this program are required to attend the intensive summer semesters, but they may choose to work in their home studios or the studios at the college in the winter and spring semesters, until the return to Maine the following summer semester. Courses include studio composition, interdisciplinary studies, research methodologies and impetus to analysis.

    College of the Atlantic

    • The College of the Atlantic offers a Master of Philosophy degree program in human ecology. This college has an approach to learning with an emphasis on multiple disciplinary values. This program has two elements; the first element consists of nine required courses as a foundation, while the second element is the thesis, which is expected to take at least one academic year to be completed. Some of the topic areas for the thesis that have been completed in the past include alternative education, environmental history, international development and marine mammal policy.

    • The University of New England has a Master of Science in education degree program that is conducted entirely online. Course requirements include differentiation theory and strategies; instructional leadership; teaching and learning in inclusion settings; motivational theory and classroom management; and special education law for the classroom.
