Colleges in Michigan That Have Programs for LPN to RN

Licensed practical nurses (LPN) who want to pursue registered nurse (RN) licensure in Michigan can choose from the 23 available bridge programs. Active LPNs in these programs matriculate with advanced placement and complete associate nursing degree programs within two to three semesters or bachelor's nursing degree programs in two to three years.
  1. Alpena Community College

    • LPNs in the nursing program at Alpena Community College enter at Level II of the program. Prerequisites to enter at this level include anatomy and physiology, microbiology, general chemistry, English composition, nutrition, general psychology and developmental psychology. Other requirements include a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all Level I nursing classes, whether taken at Alpena college or elsewhere, and a minimum score of 900 on the HESI-PN entrance exam. LPNs accepted into the program matriculate in the fall only, complete the curriculum over two semesters and receive an Associate of Applied Science degree.

    Northern Michigan University

    • The nursing school at Northern Michigan University offers an LPN to RN bridge program that confers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN). In addition to admission to the general university, program requirements include prerequisite courses in anatomy and physiology, organic and biochemistry, introductory sociology, general psychology, medical microbiology and nutrition, a minimum 2.7 GPA, an unrestricted LPN license and proof of passing the LPN licensing exam or paid work as a LPN within the five years prior to applying. Applicants can also choose from two tracks: the generic BSN track, which is completed over five semesters and admits students in the fall and spring, or the accelerated track, which is completed in less than two years and includes summer school.

    Jackson Community College

    • Students in the LPN to ADN track at Jackson Community College receive an Associate in Applied Science degree at completion of the program. To apply, current LPNs must provide a copy of their LPN license and complete three entrance exams: NLN Foundations of Nursing, HESI-RN (A2) and NLN Pharmacology. Applicants must meet with a program advisor before formally applying, and the program admits students in the fall only.
