The Everest Institute is a private, for-profit career college with locations throughout the United States. Among the school's locations is a campus in Southfield, approximately 15 miles from Detroit. The college offers a one-year LPN program from the Southfield campus. Students in the program complete coursework in ethics, communications, health-care laws, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and infection control. In addition to classroom-based courses, LPN students at Everest complete clinical training hours in local private practices, outpatient centers, hospitals and long-term care facilities. Nexcare Health Systems Training Institute is a health-care management company founded in 1998. The college offers a one-year training program in practical nursing. The course is held at the institute's training facility in Brighton, approximately nine miles from Detroit. A clinical internship is required for graduation from the LPN program. To qualify for admission to the school, all students must pass a criminal background check. The school does not participate in financial aid programs but does offer payment plans to help students manage the cost of tuition. Although the school does not offer job-placement assistance, students can apply to work in medical facilities managed by Nexcare after graduation.

Schoolcraft College is a private, two-year institution in Livonia, around 20 miles from Detroit. The school's LPN program requires students to complete prerequisite coursework in anatomy and physiology, nursing informatics and psychology prior to applying for admissions consideration. Students admitted to the program spend one year completing the curriculum coursework in nutrition, pharmacology and abnormal psychology. Students complete clinical rotations in surgical, general medical and maternal nursing. After completing the program, students have the option to remain at the school or return for one additional year in order to graduate with an associate degree, which qualifies students for a registered nursing license. Eligible students can receive federal and state loans and grants while attending the school.
