• American Public University offers a Master of Education program in guidance and counseling that prepares students to work in school settings from kindergarten to high school. In addition to the internship and practicum requirements, students complete 12 courses to obtain the degree. Required courses include human growth and development, theories of counseling, professional orientation and ethical practice, helping relationships, career counseling, and development and research methods in education.

• The University of Florida offers a master's degree program in school counseling and guidance that prepares students for state certificate as a school counselor. Students also have the option of earn a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) that requires 90 educational credits beyond the entry level. Required courses include an introduction to counseling; counseling theories and applications; developmental counseling over the lifespan; and organization and administration of guidance and personnel programs.

• The University of Hawaii at Manoa offers students a graduate-level degree program that leads to a Master of Education in counseling and guidance. This degree program is designed to be completed over the course of two and a half years on a continuous, full-time basis. Students choose from three options: a comprehensive examination, a thesis or the non-thesis option.
