Canada Continuing Education Degree Programs

Continuing education refers to post-secondary courses and degrees that are primarily designed for adult learners looking to upgrade their knowledge and skills with minimal disruption to their daily lives. Such programs generally offer flexible learning options, such as part-time or weekend scheduling and online distance learning. There are several schools in Canada that currently provide continuing education degree programs.
  1. University of Waterloo

    • The Centre for Extended Learning at the University of Waterloo offers many degree, certificate and diploma programs through online and part-time learning. Bachelor of Arts degrees are available with majors in liberal studies, English, philosophy and social development studies. A Bachelor of Science program provides training in biology, chemistry, earth science and physics. Four graduate programs are also available: a Master of Environment and Business, a Master of Mathematics for Teachers, a Master of Public Health and a Master of Management Sciences.

    Royal Roads University

    • Royal Roads University refers to itself as "Canada's university of working professionals." Its programs are designed for part-time working students and are delivered through a combination of online learning and short on-campus residencies. Undergraduate degree programs include majors in hotel management, justice studies, environmental science and management, professional communication and entrepreneurial management. Many master's degree programs are also available, including conflict analysis and management, disaster and emergency management, educational leadership, human security and peacebuilding, tourism management, business administration and environmental practice.

    Athabasca University

    • Based in northern Alberta, Athabasca University is devoted entirely to providing distance learning degree, diploma and certificate programs. It holds an open admission policy that permits individuals to study at the undergraduate level regardless of their previous academic experience. Over 700 courses and more than 90 degree programs are currently available. Undergraduate majors include the liberal arts, commerce, health administration, human resources, management, nursing, communication studies, criminal justice, human services and science. Master's and doctoral degrees are also offered in the areas of business administration, counseling, distance education, health studies, nursing, and information systems.
