List of New York Colleges for RNs

There are more than two million registered nurses (RNs) in the United States, many of whom work at hospitals and intensive care units providing critical care each day around the clock. New York state has plentiful opportunities for RNs and those seeking to become RNs, with many schools offering bachelor of science (B.S.) and master of science (M.S.) degrees.
  1. New York University

    • New York University's College of Nursing, located in New York City, has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program for RNs with or without associate degrees. The program intends to enhance an RN's knowledge in the physical and social sciences, as well as improve "expertise in assessment, patient advocacy, and care management," according to its website. Even if an applicant has an associate degree in nursing, the applicant is required to have taken an SAT reasoning test or the ACT as part of the application evaluation.

    Binghamton University

    • Binghamton University's Decker School of Nursing offers an RN to Bachelor of Science (RN-B.S.) degree program, an accelerated RN-B.S. program, a B.S. degree with a nursing major and an accelerated B.S. program. Those enrolled in the B.S. program receive four-year course study focused in the liberal arts and sciences. The nursing major begins in the student's junior year and the curriculum includes a clinical component as well as applied theory teaching. Students are immersed in clinical experiences at hospitals and health organizations during their senior year. The accelerated program can be completed in one year over three semesters.

    University of Buffalo

    • The University of Buffalo's College of Nursing offers a B.S. in nursing, which includes a basic B.S. program and a second-degree accelerated B.S. program. The B.S. program's lower-division curriculum combines liberal arts with biomedical and social sciences. Upper-division courses focus on comprehensive nursing care in clinical practice settings, pharmacology and nursing research. The accelerated program is for RNs or those with another undergraduate degree, while the basic program is for freshman or transfer students new to nursing.

    University of Rochester

    • The University of Rochester's nursing school offers an accelerated program for non-nurses, an RN to B.S. program and an RN to B.S. to M.S. program. The accelerated program lasts three years and is designed for those with a B.A. in a non-nursing field. The RN to B.S. program is for registered nurses seeking a B.S. in nursing. The program intends to build on a nurse's educational experience and many courses can be taken online. The RN to B.S. program can be completed in as few as 16 months. The RN to B.S. to M.S. program intends to accelerate movement through B.S. and M.S. degrees and can take 20 credits off the normal M.S. process.

    D'Youville College

    • D'Youville College, located in Buffalo, is a private college with a nursing program that's been around since 1942. The school of nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in nursing (B.S.N.), a five-year combined B.S.N./M.S. degree, a two year RN to B.S.N. program and a three-year RN to M.S. program. The basic B.S.N. program offers clinical courses starting in the sophomore year. The five-year combined B.S.N./M.S. program offers a clinical focus in a combined choice of study and allows for the student to complete the master's program in a shorter amount of time than pursuing both degrees separately. Both the RN to B.S.N. program and the RN to M.S. programs offer specialized curricula for licensed nurses.

    Utica College

    • Utica College is a private institution, regionally accredited, that offers online degree programs. Utica College offers an RN to B.S.N. and accepts RNs seeking to advance their careers. The program, in fact, is geared toward the working nurses.
