New York Colleges for Interior Decorating & Design

In the state of New York, there are a few schools that give degrees in the Interior Design major. Most are in New York City, but another is a part of Syracuse University. Consider factors, such as the program, school location, tuition, and any other factors that may be important to you.
  1. New York School of Interior Design

    • At this school, you can receive a Bachelor of Arts in History of the Interior and Decorative Arts which is a 120 credit program, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in subject of Interior Design as a part of a 132 credit program, and Associate's degree in Interior Design as a part of a 66 credit course. If you just want help creating portfolio and getting some experience, you can take the Basic Interior Design non-degree 24-credit course. The school also offers a Master;s degrees in Interior Design as well. The fees are $765 per credit for the 2010-2011 for school year in both undergraduate and graduate programs.

    The New School

    • The New School is located all around New York City and offers professional degrees in interior design. You must already have a Bachelor's degree in order to attend this school. This school is all inclusive and teaches theory, application, how to use computers in relation to design, and also how design can enrich people's lives. The staff also encourage helping and creating philanthropic organizations that help people all over the world. Also, the school offers services that help place you in internships. The tuition is $1,200 pre credit, which comes out to about $17,665 per term.

    Syracuse University, College of Visual and Performing Arts

    • At Syracuse University, you can get your Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design. This is one of the four year programs that teaches many things from how to design to how to use design to better the world. The university also has programs that will help place you at a job after graduation, no matter what your educational focus is. The tuition rates change every year, but are the same as the tuition rates the rest of the school is subject to. Look into getting scholarships and grants if possible.
