The New York School of Interior Design has extensive programs for students to study interior decorating. The school's basic interior design certificate introduces interior design. The Associate in Applied Science in Interior Design is a two-year program providing a liberal arts interior design degree. The Bachelor of Arts in Interior and the Decorative Arts is an undergraduate liberal arts program in art history and interior environments. The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree prepares students to sit for interior design certification and become professional interior designers. The New York School of Interior Design additionally offers graduate studies in Master of Fine Arts at three levels, professional, post-professional and professional studies in sustainable interior environments.

The Art Institute of New York City offers education in design, fashion and media, and has a program of art and design with a concentration in interior design. Students study lighting, drafting, textiles and space planning to prepare for careers in interior design, space planning, drafting and other design industry jobs. Courses to choose from include history of architecture, elements of interior design, modern furniture and design, color theory and environmental and structural systems.

New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies offers a certificate in interior design. The certificate program includes fundamentals, hands-on training, furniture specification and design presentation. Certificate holders have design project capabilities, design fundamentals, an understanding of space planning, furniture layout, materials, finishes, and scale and structure. Coursework consists of eight classes in presentation, industry, basic drafting, sourcing, lighting, studio fundamentals and applied design, and model construction.
