With both undergraduate and graduate programs available, the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) offers students a wide variety of design-related degrees and courses of study. Fashion design is one of the three original programs offered when FIT was originally founded, in 1944. Fashion design students are instructed in the areas of sewing, draping, pattern making, and computer-aided design. Each year, students put together the annual FIT runway show, which often welcomes some of the fashion-industry's most influential individuals as audience members. Students also frequently secure impressive internships; past student internships have been with Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ralph Lauren, among others.
