Interior design refers to the theory and profession of creating the structure and aesthetics of interior environments. It involves integrating established methodology (research, analysis and technical principles) with client needs and the creative process.     • In existence since 1916, the New York School of Interior Design is the only academic institution in the state of New York dedicated entirely to the field of interior design. The Renaissance-Revival campus is located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Classes are small, ranging from ten to fifteen students. In 2009, the New York School of Interior Design had a total enrollment of 750 students, 57 of which were graduate students.

    • The Savannah College of Art and Design’s interior design program is offered through the School of Building Arts. Interior design projects include commercial, residential and institutional design. Students work with AutoCAD, Microstation, the Adobe Master Collection, 3D Studio, VIZ, SURFCAM, and Autodesk Maya and Revit. SCAD offers a bachelor’s in fine art (B.F.A.), master’s in fine art (M.F.A.) and a master’s in art (M.A.).     • The University of Florida’s Department of Interior Design offers a four-year bachelor of interior design (B.I.D.) program that prepares students for careers in office, retail, health-care, residential and hospitality design.
