According to the most recent "U.S. News & World Report" rankings of industrial design schools (2008), the Art Center College of Design (ACCD) is the No. 1 program in the United States. Industrial designers design products that consumers purchase. ACCD offers a two-year Master of Science in Industrial Design degree. The program is designed in such a way that the curriculum emphasizes industrial design theory, entrepreneurship and the creation of designs that are "human-centered." Courses of study within the program include studies in visualization, materials and methods, strategic design studio, entrepreneurial methodology, system design research and design investigations.

The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) is generally considered to be one of the top fine arts schools in the world. The interior design program at RISD is no exception. Harvard University's Graduate School of Design is home to the nation's graduate architectural design program. According to the 2008 rankings published by "Architect" magazine, Harvard's graduate architecture program ranked first among all programs nationwide for the fifth straight year (Harvard has no undergraduate architecture program). Harvard's graduate program offers students an opportunity to pursue a Master of Arts (MA) en route to a Ph.D. in the field of architectural research.
