Columbia University's School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation provides five graduate degree programs--master of architecture I, master of science in advanced research, master of science in conceptual practices, master of science in advanced design and doctor of architecture design. Students with limited academic design experience learn about design in the context of the built environment within the three-year professional program. It includes three specializations: theory, design and technological application and is studio based, providing students with the resources to apply technology to their studies.

Harvard University's architecture department offers two graduate degree programs: a master of architecture I professional degree for first-time design students and a master of architecture II post-professional degree for students who earned an undergraduate degree in design. The university provides its students the opportunities to conduct research with international faculty members, among other benefits. Professional degree candidates must complete an internship and thesis before graduation. The college hosts lectures, symposiums and conferences throughout the year.

The School of Architecture and Planning offers both degree and nondegree programs at the graduate level. The school's individualized, flexible curriculum provides students with five areas of master's and doctoral specialization, including history, theory, criticism, visual arts, building technology, computation and architectural design. Students also may pursue post-doctoral fellowships or an urban design certificate. Degree candidates are eligible to study abroad through the semester-long Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture.
