The UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design operates a renowned urban design program. The department offers four different graduate degrees, all of which allow students to focus their studies on urban design. Degrees include a one-year Master of Architecture degree, a more advanced three-year Master of Architecture degree, and Master of Arts and Ph.D. programs in Architecture for students who wish to teach. The department also offers prospective undergraduates the opportunity to earn a Bachelor's degree in Architecture. Courses include Theories of Architecture, Structures, Building Design with Landscape Studio, and Building Climatology, to name a few.

Harvard University is home to the nation's first school of urban design. The school takes great pride in admitting a small group of students to study urban design; only 100 full-time students are enrolled each year.
