The Rhode Island School of Design offers the Master of Interior Architecture degree--a program ranked the best of its kind by "U.S. News & World Report" in 2009. The program prepares future interior architects to create and re-create interiors of all types using classic and contemporary design techniques. The program is primarily made up of studio course work, which includes attention to details, space, lighting, technology, drawing and history involved in interior architecture.
RISD's MIA degree takes three years to complete and is for students with bachelor's degrees in unrelated studies. The school offers an advanced standing master's degree--a two-year program--to students with architecture-related bachelor's degrees.

The Master of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture, offered by the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, prepares students for professional careers in interior architecture and interior design through course work in theory and history, and studios that emphasize technology and artistry. At the end of the three-year program, students are required to complete a final project in which they select a local site to redesign for functionality and interior look. The project must display an execution of principles learned during the program, as well as meet and exceed faculty standards.
