Undergraduate Architecture Schools

It is the architect's job to design public buildings and private homes. The road to becoming a licensed architect begins with completing an undergraduate degree program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Undergraduate architecture students learn about the history and theory of architecture, building design and how to create 3D models.
  1. Syracuse University

    • The bachelor's degree program in architecture at Syracuse University is a five-year program that leads to a professional degree. The curriculum consists of coursework in structural design, the history of architecture and real estate design. During the fifth-year, students work on a thesis project with a faculty adviser. Courses are taught by professors who are practicing architects. Additionally, visiting architects from outside the U.S. teach selected courses every semester, providing students with a global perspective to the field. Prospective students submit a creative portfolio of up to 20 original pieces of artwork, such as drawings or photographs.

    Rhode Island School of Design

    • Students in the five-year Bachelor of Architecture program at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) learn the technical side of architecture and develop artistic skills. All first-year students at RISD, including architecture majors, participate in the school's first year experience. This program consists of studio art and liberal art courses that are the foundation for major studies in subsequent years. The major curriculum for architecture students at RISD includes studies in construction methods, environmental design and building systems. Fifth-year students complete a degree project that is the culmination of the skills learned in the first four years. Applicants to the program should take algebra, trigonometry and physics in high school, along with drawing courses; three drawing courses must be submitted as part of the application process.
