Colleges in Colorado With Good Track Programs

The state of Colorado is home to a number of nationally or regionally ranked college track and field programs. According to the the U.S. Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), three schools in the state have programs that are highly rated. One of these programs is at the Division I level, while the other two are NCAA Division II schools.
  1. Colorado State University

    • Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins, Colorado, is recognized as a top program in the sport of outdoor track and field. According to the USTFCCCA, Colorado State's men's program was ranked fifth in the Mountain Region as of April 2010. Colorado State offers both an indoor and an outdoor track and field program for student athletes. CSU is a fully accredited research university that enrolls approximately 25,000 students annually. The university consists of eight different colleges and schools. Athletic teams at Colorado State, including the track and field team, are NCAA Division I teams that are members of the Mountain West Conference.

    Colorado School of Mines

    • The Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, is another Colorado college with a regionally ranked men's outdoor track and field program. The college is an NCAA Division II school that was ranked third in the central region of the United States as of April 2010. The school was ranked eighteenth on a national scale as well, according to the USTFCCCA. Like CSU, the Colorado School of Mines offers both indoor and outdoor track and field athletic programs. The school itself is a research institution that primarily focuses on engineering and applied science. The school is much smaller than CSU at just 4,500 students enrolled annually.

    Adams State College

    • Adams State College, located in Alamosa, Colorado, is a regionally and nationally ranked NCAA Division II school in track and field. The Adams State men's track and field team ranked seventh in the central region as of April 2010, according to the USTFCCCA. The Adams State women's team was concurrently ranked seventeenth in the nation by the USTFCCCA. Adams State is a liberal arts college that was founded in 1923 as a teaching college. Since then, it has grown to become a more diverse institution, offering a wide variety of bachelor's and master's degree programs.
