Major Colleges in Colorado

Colorado is known for breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains, numerous national forest sites and some of the nation's best ski slopes. Major educational institutions are scattered around the state, including universities, private colleges and community colleges. Most are located in or near the state's capital, Denver. All of the major colleges in Colorado are fully accredited.
  1. Major Public Universities

    • Colorado's public universities are among the top research institutions in the country. The University of Colorado has locations in Boulder and Denver. With an enrollment of about 29,000, UC-Boulder is the flagship campus. It offers 80 bachelor's, 70 master's and 50 doctoral degree programs in architecture, art, business, communications, education, engineering, law and music. UC-Denver offers over 115 undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and professional degree programs in 13 schools and colleges. Majors offered include architecture, arts and media, dental medicine, education, pharmacy and public affairs. Colorado State University in Fort Collins is a leading research university in infectious disease, atmospheric science, clean energy technologies and environmental science. With an enrollment of 26,000, CSU offers over 150 bachelor's, master's and graduate programs in agricultural sciences, human services, business, engineering, liberal arts, natural sciences, veterinary medicine and natural resources.

    Major Community Colleges

    • Colorado has an abundance of community colleges, with several enrolling over 10,000 students. Fort Range Community College in Westminster offers certificate and associate degree programs in common fields of study and in specialized fields such as forestry, geographic information systems and clean energy technology. Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs offers associate degrees and various certifications in career and technical fields. The college offers over 150 programs of study in areas such as business, nursing, automotive technology, architecture and computers.

    Major Private Colleges

    • Colorado Technical University, the biggest private college in Colorado, enrolls over 21,000. CTU, with multiple campus locations, has an extensive online program. It offers associate, bachelor's, graduate and doctoral programs in business, nursing, criminal justice, information technology and computer sciences. Regis University, a Catholic college, enrolls over 16,000. It offers associate, bachelor's and master's degree programs in science, religious studies, pre-med/health, education, environmental studies, and women's and gender studies. The Art Institute of Denver is part of a nationwide chain specializing in design, media arts, fashion and culinary education.

    Major State Colleges

    • With three campuses in the Denver area, Metropolitan State College Denver is the largest state college in Colorado. Founded in 1965, it has a student enrollment of about 24,000, as of 2011. MSC offers associate, bachelor's and master's degree programs in business, history, nursing, aerospace science, psychology and social work. Mesa State College in Grand Junction enrolls close to 8,000 and serves 14 counties in western Colorado. Mesa State offers a variety of bachelor's degree programs and two master's degree programs (business and education). Mesa also partners with regional community colleges that offer students bridge classes and associate degree programs.
