Trinidad, Colorado, is a small town in southern Colorado. With a population of around 10,000 people, it is the most populated city in Las Animas County and also serves as the county seat. There is only one accredited college in the city: Trinidad State Junior College.

    • Trinidad State Junior College (TSJC) is two-year college founded in 1952 and is incorporated into Colorado's public higher education system. The school offers 49 academic programs, including a number of vocational training programs.

    Degrees

    • TSJC offers four associate degrees. The Associate of Arts degree provides a general background in arts, humanities, social sciences or behavioral sciences to give students a base for continuing study in a bachelor's degree program at another school. The Associate of Science degree provides courses in mathematics, biological sciences or physical sciences and is also intended to be used to transfer into a bachelor's program. The Associate of Applied Science is a complete profession program for students going into a skilled career. The Associate of General Studies provides a combination of skills training and transferable courses to give students the ability to learn a particular trade but also offer the option of continuing their education.

    • TSJC's courses of study in arts and humanities include art, business administration, criminal justice, early childhood education, elementary education, English, music, psychology and theater. Programs in the sciences include biology, chemistry, engineering, mechatronics, forensic science, math, natural resources, pre-med, pre-pharmacy, physical therapy and pre-veterinary. The school also offers career-based programs in addictions counseling, medical assistance, agribusiness, aquaculture, automotive, barbering, business management, commercial vehicle operation, information systems, construction technology, cosmetology, emergency medical, woodworking, fire science, graphic design, gunsmithing, manufacturing technology, message therapy, nursing, occupational safety and health and office technologies.

    Sports

    • TSJC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and has baseball, softball, golf, basketball and volleyball programs. Dallas Cowboys football player Franklin Clarke and two-time National League All-Star Danny Jackson are both graduates of TSJC.

    Interesting Facts

    • Trinidad, Colorado, was once known as the sex change capital of the world. One of its most famous residents is the late Stanley H. Biber, an American doctor who settled there in the 1960s and performed a number of sex change operations. However, TSJC does not have courses in the procedure.
