John Jay College of Criminal Justice, which is affiliated with the City University of New York, is the only college in the nation founded specifically to study criminal justice and public service. The college offers criminal justice majors and degrees on the bachelors and masters level. Majors include police studies, correctional studies, criminal justice, international criminal justice and criminal justice administration. John Jay College of Criminal Justice offers students opportunities to study abroad and participate in internships and cooperative education programs.
Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, offers a bachelor's degree program in criminology as well as a Master of Science degree in criminal justice and a master of arts degree in criminology. Criminology majors at Drury take classes that allow them to critically explore issues such as capital punishment, the correctional system, psychology of the law, white-collar crime and an array of other topics. All students who major in criminology complete an internship at an approved site.
The State University of New York in Albany offers a criminal justice major on the undergraduate level as well as degrees on the master's and doctorate levels. In addition, students can apply for an accelerated program that allows them to simultaneously work toward bachelors and masters degrees. Students at the SUNY-Albany School of Criminal Justice can take advantage of several specialized research programs, including studies of capital punishment, incarceration and life outcome, adolescents and crime, and criminal justice statistics and capital juries.
The University of Maryland, which is located in College Park, offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees through its Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice. General areas of study include law enforcement, crime and delinquency, juvenile justice, criminology, courts and corrections. Students will take part in internships, including a required daily journal about their experience. Students also may participate in a criminal justice student association as well as Alpha Phi Sigma (the National Criminal Justice Honor Society).
