Florida State University has a College of Criminology and criminal justice department on campus. You can major in criminology and criminal justice when the required courses are completed satisfactorily. Course examples are Introduction to Criminal Justice, White Collar Crime, Public and Private Security and Human Behavior. Florida State University says, "A one-semester, full-time internship is available. This program provides valuable hands-on experience and counts three hours toward the required 36 semester hours in the major."
The University of Albany is located in New York and offers undergraduate as well as graduate level degrees. The school encourages students to "examine political, economic and cultural patterns that shape definitions of crime and influence the policy choices about how to respond to certain categories of crime." The University of Albany offers tours to interested students. Some undergraduate courses are in Policing in a Free Society, Women and Crime and Order and Disorder in Society. The graduate level degree helps students learn "research and statistical skills that allow students to appreciate, design and evaluate effective policy and practice."
The University of Maryland is able to boast a top spot on the list of universities offering degrees in criminal justice. U.S. News and World Reports ranked Criminology and Criminal Justice programs in 2005 and ranked Maryland's program first out of the thirty-two programs evaluated. A few undergraduate courses are Statistics for Criminology and Criminal Justice, Criminal Law in Action and Introduction to Criminalistics.
California State University offers several scholarships for students majoring in Criminal Justice. There are also several minors in criminal justice available to students majoring in science, biology and chemistry. Some undergraduate courses are General Investigative Techniques, Violence and Terrorism, and Fundamentals of Correction. California State University hosts job fairs and helps students with agency placement and internships while perusing the criminal justice degree.
