Graphic Design for Packaging Schools

Graphic design for packaging is much more than just colors and words. People who design for packaging have so much more to consider, such as the type of product being packaged, the type of packaging material used and the laws and regulations that govern the type of packaging for the product. This is why graphic design is often a key training component in degree programs related to packaging.
  1. Clemson University

    • Clemson University's School of Packaging offers undergraduate and graduate degrees that arm students with a core curriculum; then they are required to choose a specialty, one of which is graphic design for packaging. As with all of the programs' specialties, students who specialize in graphic design for packaging are challenged to devise new packaging styles and greener methods. Courses include Packaging Design Fundamentals and Packaging Design & Development.

    Rochester Institute of Technology

The college also offers an executive master's program designed for professionals with at least five years of experience in the field. For the bachelor's degree, coursework includes Engineering Design Graphics and Packaging For Marketing; for the master's degree, students take Advanced Packaging Design.

    University of Florida

    • The University of Florida's department of agricultural and biological engineering offers a curriculum in packaging science that introduces students to the field with core classes in the sciences and engineering. Then the curriculum expands to offer students a comprehensive skill set, including graphic design as it applies to package engineering, printing and marketing. Design-specific courses include Package Decoration and Senior Design In Packaging.

    Pratt Institute
