Kentucky Schools for Gaming or Graphics Design

Several colleges in Kentucky offer graphic design programs at the associate's and bachelor's degree levels. These programs teach students how to create visual solutions to communication problems and are designed to prepare graduates for entry-level careers in the field. Courses teach students about drawing and design, electronic media and software programs.
  1. Northern Kentucky University

    • Located in Highland Heights, Northern Kentucky University offers both a bachelor of arts and bachelor of fine arts in graphic design. The bachelor of arts degree program covers a wide range of graphic design topics; students must choose a concentration in another visual communication area, such as drawing, painting or intermedia. Students enrolled in the bachelor of fine arts program are prepared for entry-level graphic design careers through upper-division courses, a capstone project and an internship.

    Eastern Kentucky University

    • Eastern Kentucky University, in Richmond, offers a bachelor's degree program in studio arts with a focus in graphic design. Core courses include typography, image making, production for graphic design, professional practices in graphic design and new media. Students are also required to complete a senior workshop design. In addition to the concepts of art and design, students learn about two-dimensional design, the history of graphic arts and graphic communications.

    Kentucky Wesleyan University

    • Located in Owensboro, Kentucky Wesleyan University offers a bachelor's degree program in graphic design that teaches students about web design, animation, typography and identity design. All courses take place in the university's state-of-the-art Apple computer lab. The four-year program includes courses in digital photographic techniques, printmaking, two-dimensional design, drawing and three-dimensional design. A minor in graphic arts is also available for those majoring in business, communications and computer science.

    Daymar College

    • Daymar College, which has campuses throughout Kentucky, offers an associate's degree program in graphic arts at its Bowling Green and Louisville South campuses. The program provides students with basic graphic design skills and prepares them for entry-level work or transfer into a four-year bachelor's degree program. Students are given opportunities to use and learn industry standard software programs, such as Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Flash and Microsoft FrontPage Visual Basic.
