Point Park University, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is considered by Education-Portal.com to be the top school for criminal justice in the United States (See Reference 1). Point Park started as a business school in 1933 and became a full university in 1981 (See Reference 2). It offers bachelor degrees in criminal justice and law enforcement, and a master's degree in criminal justice administration. A Bachelor of Science degree requires a minimum of 30 hours in criminal justice courses, including criminal law and procedures, criminology and court organization.

The University of Louisville dates back to 1798 in Kentucky and underwent several name changes in its first decades, becoming known as the University of Louisville in 1846. The School of Justice Administration was created in 1969 (See Reference 3). The school offers both online and campus classes, and has a Justice Administration Club and a local chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the national criminal justice honor society. Criminal justice majors do internships with local, state and federal government criminal justice agencies.

Gonzaga University is a private university in Spokane, Washington, that is affiliated with the Jesuits, a Catholic order of priests. Gonzaga was founded in 1881. The criminal justice program is administered by the Department of Sociology but faculty comes from all departments, including political science, psychology and sociology (See Reference 4). Gonzaga offers a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice. Gonzaga also has a law school for students who want to advance their criminal justice education.

Texas State University at San Marcos has a criminal justice department that serves about 1,000 students. The university offers bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in this field (See Reference 5). Faculty members not only teach but are involved in research, and run such institutes as the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training center.
