The Los Angeles Institute of Architecture and Design (LAIAD) offers an interior design transfer program which prepares students for further studies leading to a bachelor's degree. As an alternative, graduates of the program can begin a career as an interior designer following completion of an paid internship. Studio courses are offered in the evening, to accommodate the schedules of working students. The intensive two-year-program consists of coursework in conceptual design, history of architecture, interior design drawing and portfolio development. The design coursework is supplemented by liberal arts courses. Applicants complete an interview as part of the admissions process; a portfolio is not a prerequisite for admission to the interior design program.
