Grants for Medical Assistant School

A variety of educational grants are available to students attending medical assistant school. The most prominent source of scholarship money for medical assistant students are state and national organizations of medical assistants and medical technologists. Some scholarships for students pursuing a career as a medical assistant are limited to students attending school in a certain geographical area.
  1. AMT Scholarships

    • American Medical Technologists offers annual scholarship assistance to students pursuing a career as a medical assistant. Five scholarships are awarded each year in the amount of $500 each. To be eligible, a student must be able to demonstrate financial need, and must be enrolled in an accredited program leading to certification as a medical assistant. AMT Scholarship awards may only be used to pay for a student's tuition. The annual deadline for application is April 1.     The Maxine Williams Scholarship Fund

    • The American Association of Medical Assistants provides scholarship money to students attending a medical assistant school through the Maxine Williams Scholarship Fund. AAMA Maxine Williams Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,000. To be eligible, a student must have already completed a quarter or semester in a medical assistant program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, and must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. The annual deadline for application is February 15. Interested students should visit the AAMA website to request an application.

    Alaska Medical Assistants Society State Scholarship

    • One example of assistance based on geography, the Alaska Medical Assistants Society provides scholarship money to students attending medical assistant school in the state of Alaska through the AMAS State Scholarship. The State Scholarship is awarded annually in the amount of $500. To be eligible, a student must be attending a medical assistant program at either the University of Alaska Fairbanks or the University of Alaska Anchorage. Eligible applicants must submit a 250-word essay on the subject of why they have chosen medical assisting as a career. The annual deadline for application is March 15.
