Grad School Grants for Women

Many educational grants and scholarships are available to female applicants who are pursuing a graduate degree. Graduate school grants for women are available from a wide array of professional organizations. Some scholarships for female postgraduate students are limited to applicants who are pursuing a degree in a specific area of study.
  1. ASSE Foundation Thompson Scholarship for Women in Safety

    • The American Society of Safety Engineers makes scholarship money available to female graduate students pursuing a degree in occupational health and safety or a related field through the Thompson Scholarship for Women in Safety. This scholarship is awarded annually in the amount of $1,000. A student must be enrolled on a full-time basis to be eligible . A student does not need to be a U.S. citizen or ASSE member to be eligible. The annual deadline for application is December 1.     WID HORIZONS Scholarship

    • Women In Defense (WID), an affiliate of the National Defense Industrial Association, makes scholarship money available to female graduate students through the Women In Defense HORIZONS Scholarship. HORIZONS Scholarships are awarded in varying amounts that range between $1,000 and $7,000. To be eligible, a student must be female, must be able to demonstrate financial need, must be a U.S. citizen, must have a grade-point average of at least 3.25, and must be pursuing a career related to national defense or national security. Applicants must be able to demonstrate how the degree they are seeking will be relevant to a career in national security. The annual deadline for application is July 1.     The ELA Foundation Scholarships

    • The Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation makes scholarship money available to female graduate students who have a documented disability through The Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation Scholarship Program. Armstrong Foundation Scholarships are awarded in varying amounts and may be used only to defray the cost of tuition. An eligible student must have a physical disability, must be female, must be pursuing a graduate degree, and must be member of the American Association of People with Disabilities. In addition to a completed scholarship application, an applicant must also submit a 1,000-word essay explaining how she will change "the face of disability on the planet."     • Institutions of higher learning are one of the best sources of scholarship money, so be sure to check with your university financial aid office for available scholarship programs. Graduate students in the fields of medicine or education may be eligible for loan forgiveness programs through the federal government. The U.S. government also administers a wide variety of educational grants and scholarships; the website www.students.gov is another good place to begin searching for graduate scholarships.
