School Grants for the Disabled

There are thousands of disabled people attending college in the United States. Many of them are able to attend school through the help of charitable organizations and private scholarships funds reserved specifically for the disabled minority. These scholarships and grants are available for the learning disabled, the mentally disabled and the physically disabled. Below is a list of some of the grants available for disabled students.
  1. AG Bell Scholarship

    • The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell) Scholarship is offered to full-time hearing impaired students. To qualify, you must excel academically (the scholarship is very competitive). The award amount is between $1,000 and $10,000.

    Elks Undergraduate Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities

    • The Elks Association Undergraduate Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities is a program that helps disabled college students pay for their educational expenses. To qualify, you must be a citizen of California or Hawaii, must have a physical, neurological, hearing, visual and/or speech disability, and be a high school graduate. The award amount ranges between $1,000 and $2,000.

    The Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Scholarship

    • The Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Scholarship Award is a scholarship offered to a documented learning disabled high school senior by the National Center for Learning Disabilities. Ideal candidates for the award have overcome adversity to excel academically despite their disability, display leadership qualities and have a clear understanding of how living with learning disabilities doesn't mean you can't thrive professionally. The award amount is $10,000.

    The Rudolph Dillman Memorial Scholarship

    • The Rudolph Dillman Memorial Scholarship is offered to a deserving blind student by the American Foundation for the Blind. To qualify, you must be pursuing a career in rehabilitation or education for the blind. One of the awards is reserved specifically for those who demonstrate financial need. The award amount is $2,500.

    The Lilly Reintegration Scholarship

    • The Lilly Reintegration Scholarship is offered by the Center For Reintegration to students with psychological disabilities. To qualify, you must have a documented case of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder or schizophreniform. Additionally, you must be currently receiving treatment for these conditions and be actively involved in your rehabilitation. Ideal candidates are involved in their disability community, have thoughtful and appropriate educational and professional goals, and must write a reflective essay on what it's like to have a psychological affliction. Award amounts vary.
