The Lutheran Church founded Capital University in 1830. Located in neighboring Bexley, Ohio, the school is home to more than 2,600 undergraduate students, 96 percent of whom are Ohio residents, reports the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. Business, education and history are the largest bachelor's degree programs at the university, according to Barron's. To graduate, all students must complete coursework in religion. Students at Capital can participate in a number of study abroad programs, such as a semester at the Kodaly Institute of Music in Hungary. The college sponsors 14 intercollegiate sports teams, and there are 10 Greek organizations on campus.

Established in 1963, Columbus State Community College is a public, two-year institution with more than 23,000 undergraduates. The school features classes with an average size of 19 students, according to its website. Among the college's 140 degree and certificate programs are electronics, auto repair, carpentry, construction management, aviation maintenance, nursing, veterinary technology, finance, computer programming, public services and hospitality. The school has four intercollegiate sports' teams, a cheer-leading squad and 30 student groups on campus.

Franklin University is a private, nonsectarian institution established in 1902. The school is home to more than 5,300 full- and part-time undergraduate students. Degree programs include accounting, banking and finance, business administration, human resources, computer science, health care administration and safety management. The college caters primarily to working adults and offers flexible scheduling options and many night classes. In addition to its traditional classes, the school also offers online programs. There are no sports teams at Franklin, and the school has six student organizations.
