Colorado Registered Nursing Schools

The Colorado Board of Nursing approves educational programs that grant associate and bachelor's degrees in nursing. Graduates from these schools qualify to take the licensing examination to receive the necessary credentials for a career in registered nursing, a field the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts will grow by 22 percent from 2008 through 2018. Consisting of both private and public institutions, Colorado's registered nursing schools are spread throughout the state.
  1. Regis University

    • The Jesuit Order of the Roman Catholic Church founded Denver-based Regis University in 1877. The university is home to more than 5,700 undergraduate students. Regis University offers a traditional bachelor's program in registered nursing as well as an accelerated course of study for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree in another field. To be considered for admission to the nursing program, students must first complete classes in chemistry and anatomy. Once accepted, all students take psychology, sociology, statistics, philosophy, religious studies and ethics. Clinical rotations are held primarily in the Denver area.

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs

    • Established in 1965, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is a public institution with more than 6,800 undergraduate students. The school's Beth-El College of Nursing offers traditional and accelerated bachelor's degrees in nursing as well a registered nursing refresher course for those who want to improve their skills or gain experience with newer innovations in health care technology. As of 2010, the college boasted a 90 percent or better passing rate for the state's registered nurse examination. Because clinical space is limited, students are ranked based on their academic performance during their sophomore years with the highest-rated students admitted before the lowest.
