The Jesuit Order of the Roman Catholic Church founded Denver-based Regis University in 1877. The university is home to more than 5,700 undergraduate students. Regis University offers a traditional bachelor's program in registered nursing as well as an accelerated course of study for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree in another field. To be considered for admission to the nursing program, students must first complete classes in chemistry and anatomy. Once accepted, all students take psychology, sociology, statistics, philosophy, religious studies and ethics. Clinical rotations are held primarily in the Denver area.

Established in 1965, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is a public institution with more than 6,800 undergraduate students. The school's Beth-El College of Nursing offers traditional and accelerated bachelor's degrees in nursing as well a registered nursing refresher course for those who want to improve their skills or gain experience with newer innovations in health care technology. As of 2010, the college boasted a 90 percent or better passing rate for the state's registered nurse examination. Because clinical space is limited, students are ranked based on their academic performance during their sophomore years with the highest-rated students admitted before the lowest.

Located in the western city of Grand Junction, Mesa State College is home to approximately 6,200 students. The college offers associate and bachelor's degrees in nursing, both of which enable students to take the state registered nursing examination. The associate program typically involves two years of full time study to complete while the bachelor's program lasts four years. Topics required in the curriculum for the baccalaureate program include surgery, human development, mental health, family studies, pediatrics, community health and leadership. The school admits roughly 60 students to the traditional program per year.
