Registered Nursing Schools

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the demand for registered nurses (RNs) will increase by 22 percent from 2008 through 2018. To begin a career in nursing, students must first complete a post-secondary education program at a nursing school approved by their state. In the United States, a large number of four-year colleges and universities offer bachelor's programs to prepare students for careers in registered nursing, ranging from large, public institutions to smaller, private schools.
  1. The University of Utah

    • Located in Salt Lake City, the University of Utah is home to more than 21,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The public school's College of Nursing grants a specialized accelerated bachelor's degree in nursing for students who already have a bachelor's degree in another field. An online degree-completion program is also offered for registered nurses who are licensed to work in the field but only hold associate degrees. Before beginning the traditional four-year degree program, students must complete classes in biology, chemistry, statistics, mathematics and nutrition. Clinical rotations for the program are held throughout the Salt Lake City area.
