There are many different types of graphic designers. Some focus on print media such as posters, brochures or magazine layout, while web designers create websites. Yet regardless of a particular designer's daily activities, a graphic designer's main goal is to effectively communicate a client's message through visual means.

If you are not sure you want to be a graphic designer, this could be a more well-rounded degree.

You'll use industry-specific software to help you learn and create everything from logos and posters to packaging, Web sites, and corporate identity packages. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as advertising designer, computer artist, freelance artist, graphic designer, or layout artist."
Associate's degrees and certificates in graphic design are also available at 2- or 3-year professional school, such as community colleges, and may be sufficient for graphic design assistant or production artist positions. This type of program may give you immediate access to entry-level positions, but it may be hard to advance without furthering your education.
