Medical Laboratory Technology Colleges

Medical, or clinical, laboratory technologists and technicians examine body fluids and cells in order to detect, diagnose and treat diseases. Many two-year community colleges and technical schools offer associate degree studies that prepare graduates for a certification examination issued by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Additionally, some universities offer more advanced clinical laboratory science bachelor's degree programs.

    • Founded in 1962, Clark State Community College is in Springfield, Ohio. Clark offers more than 80 academic degree programs, including the two-year medical laboratory technology associate degree program. The program's curriculum combines general education core courses like English and business communication, with medical laboratory technology specific courses. immunology, phlebotomy and chemistry for technicians are all part of the curriculum. Additionally, students have several opportunities to develop clinical and laboratory experience through courses like medical microbiology laboratory and phlebotomy laboratory. Upon completion of the program's requirements, graduates can take national certification examinations or transfer to local universities such as Franklin University's bachelor's program in healthcare management, Urbana University's bachelor's program in healthcare management or University of Cincinnati's bachelor program in clinical laboratory science.

    York Technical College

    • York Technical College is a two-year public community college in the northern South Carolina city of Rock Hill. Founded in 1964, the college offers associate degree, transfer, diploma and certificate programs, including an associate degree program in medical laboratory technology. The five-semester medical laboratory technology curriculum combines general education coursework with required major courses and electives, and can be completed in two years. Urinalysis and body fluids, immunohematology and medical microbiology are just a few of the program's required courses, in addition to multiple opportunities for clinical study. York's medical laboratory technology associate degree program is accredited by National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science.

    Bristol Community College

    • Located in Fall River, Massachusetts, Bristol Community College was established in 1965. The two-year community college offers more than 120 academic programs of study, including associate degrees, career certificate programs and transfer programs. The clinical laboratory science career program is suitable for students interested in pursuing medical laboratory technology studies. Clinical laboratory sciences is part of the college's health sciences division. Curriculum for the four-semester program includes core general education courses human physiology and elements of microbiology, as well as writing courses like composition I and II. In the program's latter semesters, students take such major courses as introduction to clinical laboratory science, urinalysis and hematology, among others. Upon completion of the program, graduates will receive an associate degree.
