Andhra Medical Colleges

Located in southern India, Andhra Pradesh is the fourth-largest state by area. Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra, houses several top-notch engineering and medical colleges. Other notable medical colleges are located in cities like Kakinada, Vijaywada and Tirupati. Most medical colleges of south India affiliate with NTR University of Health Science, a body named after the ex-Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and created to improve the standard and quality of medical education and research. The body conducts a common entrance test and manages a uniform curriculum for all institutions affiliated with it.
  1. Guntur Medical College

    • Affiliated with the NTR University of Health Science, Guntur Medical College is a premier government medical institution that has awarded undergraduate and postgraduate degrees since 1946. The college enrolls 150 undergraduate and 78 postgraduate medical students every year. It offers courses in microbiology, cardiology, psychiatry, neurology, pediatrics and dental, among several others. Along with degree courses, Guntur Medical College also offers training in radiography, pharmacy and paramedics.

    Andhra Medical School

    • Started in 1923, Andhra Medical School is the oldest medical institution of the state and the country. Located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Medical College is government-aided and affiliated with the NTR University of Health Science. Students can earn a bachelor's of medicine (M.B.B.S) in a span of four years. Andhra Medical College has 34 departments that train students in specialized fields that include plastic surgery, nephrology, dental, nuclear medicine and biochemistry, among others.

    Deccan College of Medical Sciences

    • Sponsored by the Dar-us-Salam Educational Trust, Deccan College of Medical Sciences is a private medical institution for Muslim minorities, located in Hyderabad. Recognized by the Medical Council of India, the school is affiliated with the NTR University of Health Science. The school offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and diplomas in several medical fields. Deccan College has 13 clinical departments that includes medicine, psychiatry, radiology and orthopaedics, among others. Specialized courses in gastroenterology, plastic surgery and pediatric surgery are also available.

    Kurnool Medical College

    • Located in the town of Kurnool, Kurnool Medical College is a government college affiliated with Sri Venkateswara University. It started in 1957 with only 50 students that enrolled for the undergraduate course. In recent years, along with undergraduate degree choices, Kurnool Medical College also provides facilities for several postgraduate degree and diploma options in pathology, biochemistry, microbiology and physiology, among others.

    Gandhi Medical College

    • Located in Hyderabad, Gandhi Medical College is the second medical college in Hyderabad, and began operations in 1954. It offers 37 medical degrees in various branches. Every year, the college gives admission to 150 students at the bachelor's level, as well as 88 students for postgraduate courses. The college offers several areas of medical education that includes courses in cardiology, urology, gastroenterology and psychiatry.
