Christian Interior Design Colleges

Among the interior design schools accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation are a small number of Christian colleges. These schools combine courses in engineering, science, mathematics and design, qualifying graduates for interior design licenses in their respective states. Christian interior design colleges also provide students with the opportunity to study theology and religious subjects, as well as to participate in missions, community service and worship.
  1. Samford University

    • Samford University, in Birmingham, Alabama, has affiliations with the Alabama Baptist Convention. The university has an enrollment of more than 4,400 undergraduate and graduate students. In 2010, U.S. News and World Report ranked it No. 126 among the nation's universities. Its Bachelor of Science in interior design program requires coursework in technical drawing, building codes, computer-aided drafting, textiles, spatial planning, furniture, lighting and interior design history. All students in the program take classes in Biblical studies, complete an internship and undergo a portfolio review during their sophomore year. Students can participate in missions and community-service projects. About 43 percent of freshmen and 39 percent of continuing students receive some form of financial aid, according to the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges.

    High Point University

    • Established by the United Methodist Church in 1924, High Point University, in High Point, North Carolina, is home to more than 3,300 undergraduate and graduate students, In 2010, U.S. News & World Report ranked it No. 5 among baccalaureate colleges in the southern United States. The Bachelor of Science in interior design program includes classes in drawing, art history, furnishings, textiles, color theory, lighting, materials and finishes and computer-aided drafting. Interior design students can participate in internships or cooperative, paid work placements with one of the many furniture manufacturers in High Point. All students must take religious studies courses. Around 91 percent of freshmen and 78 percent of continuing students receive some form of financial aid, according to the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges.

    La Roche College

    • Founded in 1963, La Roche College is a Catholic school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with an enrollment of more than 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students. Among the required courses for the Bachelor of Science in interior design program are design graphics, textiles, building technology, architectural rendering, lighting and electrical systems, finish materials, business practices and contracts. A portfolio review, two senior projects and an internships are mandatory. Students can also take electives in interior photography, furniture, kitchen and bath design and computer science and may complete a second internship if they choose. La Roche offers several religious studies courses. About 95 percent of students receive financial aid, according to 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges.
