Northeastern Interior Design Colleges

A good interior designer does not simply decorate a room; she creates a visual space that communicates an artistic concept. While a college degree is not necessary for a career as an interior designer, it can provide future designers with a solid foundation of design knowledge and skills. The northeastern United States is home to several schools which offer both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in interior design.
  1. New York School of Interior Design

    • The New York School of Interior Design offers associate's, bachelor's and master's degree programs in interior design. Undergraduate curriculum emphasizes design history, professional design concepts and techniques as well as liberal arts studies. The graduate program is divided into three degree tracks: a professional MFA, which is designed for students who have not previously studied design; a post-professional MFA, which is intended to provide students who have an undergraduate degree in interior design with specialized training; and a Master of Professional Studies, which prepares design professionals to create and maintain sustainable interior spaces.

Students in both degree programs work in supervised paid positions at area interior design firms during the day and attend classes at night. Students must work a total of 4,500 hours to earn 45 credits in design initiation, design implementation, construction and administration.
