Michigan Interior Designing Colleges

Interior designers differ from interior decorators in that they have received a diploma or degree from an accredited interior design school, have worked in the industry and have passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. Interior designers study environmental sciences to understand the planning of interior spaces. The American Society of Interior Designer (ASID) designation is a sought-after accreditation for designers and decorators. Interior design schools in Michigan offer two- and four-year programs.

Now included in the School of Planning, Design and Construction, the school's approach to interior design envelops all three elements. Outreach programs have been established with Michigan companies where students work collaboratively in real-life design situations. They also have study abroad programs for students interested in working in an international environment. The Michigan State University interior design program covers four years of study and leads to a bachelor's degree.
