Named for its southwestern New Jersey locale, Cumberland County College (CCC) was the first community college opened in the state. Founded in 1966, the college enrolls more than 3,500 students in its 90 programs of study in career and technical fields. CCC offers associate's degrees and certificates in areas of study ranging from accounting and agriculture to technical studies and television production. Student life at the college is characterized by a diverse selection students clubs and organizations, such as the Drama Club and the Radiography Club, in addition to intercollegiate athletic teams in both men's and women's sports.

Salem Community College (SCC) was founded in 1958 as Salem County Technical Institute. The college's main campus is in Penns Grove, a small borough in southern New Jersey's Salem County. A two-year public school, SCC has an enrollment of 1,500 students each semester. Salem offers associate's degrees and certificate programs in liberal arts and business, as well as in other areas of study. Glass art, biotechnology, nursing and criminal justice are among the more than 40 programs of study that SCC students can choose from. The college's student life includes athletic teams in men's and women's basketball and soccer teams, in addition to other teams. The Salem Center is located in downtown Salem, and offers career services, GED preparation and English as a Second Language study for those matriculated at the college.

With three campuses located in the southern New Jersey counties of Atlantic and Cape May, Atlantic Cape Community College was the second community college to open in the state. Founded in 1964 as Atlantic Community College, today more than 6,500 students are enrolled in credit programs at the college. With nine academic departments in areas that include Allied Health and Nursing, Culinary Arts and Social Science, Atlantic Cape features more than 45 associate's degree granting career and transfer programs. Paralegal studies, child development and computer programming are just a few of the courses of study offered at the college. Atlantic Cape students can participate in student clubs and associations like the Future Teachers of America or student government, in addition to intramural and intercollegiate sports teams.
