List of Community Colleges in Hawaii

The University of Hawaii features 10 campuses spread across the six major islands of Hawaii, with 114 associate degree programs offered at seven community colleges. Over 27,000 community college students attend classes in accounting, culinary arts, languages, nursing and many other areas of study. Community college locations include Hilo, Honolulu, Kapiolani, Maui, Leeward, Windward, and Kauai. Applications for admission are accepted throughout the year at all seven schools and financial aid is available.

      Located on the island of Hawaii, also known as the "Big Island," Hawaii Community College serves as the main community college in the state and offers 55 programs and 22 associate degrees. Hawaii Community College is adjacent to the University of Hawaii campus in Hilo, allowing students to continue on to a four-year degree in the same city. The campus' 2,884 students study for degrees and certificates in construction, transportation, business, hospitality, liberal arts and nursing. On-campus housing includes dorms or apartments with required meal plans and many students are employed on and off campus. Hilo and the Big Island offer white sandy beaches, waterfalls, tropical rain forests, fishing, and state parks to occupy students' time outside of the classroom.

    Honolulu Community College

    • Study in Hawaii's largest city at Honolulu Community College.

      Honolulu Community College opened in 1920 to serve 42 students and by 2010 served over 4,200 students working toward associate degrees in 26 areas, according to the college's website. Students study subjects such as welding, carpentry, cosmetology, commercial aviation, music, and small vessel repair for an Associate in Science, Associate in Arts, Associate in Applied Science or Associate in Technical Studies degree. Located near downtown Honolulu on the island of Oahu, the campus offers referrals for off-campus housing and features a bookstore, cafeteria, a job placement center, and library facilities on-site. Honolulu and the island of Oahu offer students urban amenities combined with surfing on the North Shore, historic Hawaiian architecture and hiking at Diamond Head State Monument.

    Maui College

      Maui College is a branch of the University of Hawaii serving the islands of Maui, Molokai, and Lanai. It offers two bachelor's degrees in addition to its community college associate's degrees. The campus has 3,000 students enrolled in programs such as culinary arts, hospitality, agriculture, business, human services, fashion, and allied health. Located in Kahului across from the ocean, Maui College is two miles from Maui's airport and near the city's restaurants and shops. Student housing is available at a privately owned apartment complex within walking distance of campus. According to the University of Hawaii, 93 percent of Maui College's students are Hawaiian residents, 1.8 percent come from the U.S. mainland and 1.1 percent are from other countries. The island of Maui features 81 beaches to tempt students during their free time and public transportation is available on the island.
