List of Community Colleges in Missouri

The Missouri Economic Research and Information Center reports that the demand for biological technicians, forensic scientists, paralegals, nurses, allied health professionals like respiratory therapists and sonographers, veterinary technologists and occupational and physical therapy assistants in the state will grow by more than 15 percent from 2006 to 2016. Missouri's community colleges feature two-year associate degree programs in many of these growing fields and offer low-cost alternatives to traditional universities for Missouri residents.
  1. St. Louis Community College

    • Established in 1962, St. Louis Community College has more than 28,000 for-credit students. Among the college's 100 academic programs are associate degrees in life sciences, technical communications, engineering science, deaf interpreting, interior design, occupational therapy assisting and corrections. Day and evening classes and online courses are available, and the school operates four branches that offer a variety of programs. The college provides large tuition reductions for St. Louis district residents and discounted rates for all Missouri residents. The school participates in federal and state loan and grant programs and also offers a limited number of institutional scholarships and work-study opportunities. School-sponsored athletic teams include baseball, softball, track and field and men's and women's basketball and soccer. A number of student organizations and clubs also operate at each campus.

    Ozarks Technical Community College

    • Located in Springfield, Missouri, Ozarks Technical Community College is home to more than 12,000 for-credit students. Technology and allied health programs dominate the school's associate degree offerings, including dental hygiene, nursing, medical laboratory technology, respiratory therapy, drafting, network technology and industrial control and automation technology. Many programs include internships or clinical rotations as a part of their required curriculum. A number of programs feature online courses. Reduced tuition is available for district and Missouri residents, and federal and state financial aid and work-study options are available for qualified students. Students with children can utilize the on-site day care center. The Career Employment Services department assists students with resume writing, interview preparation and job opening research.

    North Central Missouri College

    • North Central Missouri College has fewer than 1,500 students at its campus in Trenton, Missouri. Associate of applied science degrees at the college include nursing, pharmacy technology, agriculture and natural resources, education, medical assisting and information technology. In addition to online classes, the school offers telecourses and other distance education programs. Qualified students can take advantage of federal and state loans and grants, institutional scholarships, work-study opportunities and veteran's benefits to help offset the cost of tuition. Discounted tuition is available for in-district students and Missouri residents. Career counseling and academic advising are available for all students. The college offers resume writing and interview workshops and also features a mentoring program that pairs students with graduates of the college.
