Red Rocks Community College is a two-year school with campuses in Lakewood and Arvada. The college awards an associate of arts degree in outdoor physical recreation. Colorado Mountain College is a two-year college located between Denver and Grand Junction. The college offers a program in outdoor recreation leadership that emphasizes wilderness skills and leadership abilities. Topics of study in the program include safe and efficient travel, group development and decision making. Mountain orientation and avalanche safety are among the other courses offered. Students are required to complete a minimum of 62 credits to graduate from the program. Credits can to transfer to many four-year institutions.

Pikes Peak Community College is a public two-year college in central Colorado offering an associate of applied science degree in outdoor leadership and recreation technology. Completion of the program requires both general education and major-specific coursework. Classes include risk management for outdoor professionals, backcountry cooking and principles of outdoor recreation. Nordic skiing and whitewater rafting guide are among the elective course topics available. Pikes Peak Community College also offers outdoor recreation certifications, including mountain field studies and water recreation studies.
