Sports & Entertainment Management Schools

People interested in management careers are certainly at no loss for available fields in which to work. Sports and entertainment management are among the concentrations available for managers. Sports managers are typically employed by a sports team, managing the team's operations and/or financial matters, and, at times, guiding player-personnel decisions. Individuals working in entertainment management can work for both profit and not-for-profit creative organizations. A number of schools across the country offer management degrees specific to sports and entertainment management.
  1. California State University, Long Beach

    • California State University, Long Beach is a public four-year institution in southern California. The university offers a Master of Arts in kinesiology with a specialization in sports management. Curriculum in the 18-month program includes courses in sports marketing development and fund-raising, sport finance and foundations of sport management. Students meet one night a week plus two Saturdays per course, a schedule that affords attendees the ability to work while they complete the program. In addition to in-class work, students also complete a six-month internship.

    New York University

    • New York University is a private four-year institution located in the Greenwich Village area of New York City. The university awards a Bachelor of Science in sports management. Core courses required of all students include sports management accounting and organizations in sports. In addition to completing core courses, students choose between one of three offered specializations during their junior year. The available specializations are: sports law, organizational management and event management. Students are also required to complete a 700-hour internship.

    Missouri State University

    • Missouri State University is a public four-year university located in southwest Missouri. The school's College of Business Administration offers an undergraduate degree in entertainment management. All students must successfully complete a series of general business courses. In addition, there are seven required entertainment management major classes, including introduction to the entertainment industry, entertainment venue management and entertainment marketing. Students must also take part in a 90-hour internship that should be at least two months in duration.

    Drexel University

    • Drexel University is a private four-year institution located in southeast Pennsylvania. The university awards an undergraduate degree in entertainment and arts management through the its Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. Students have three available concentrations to select from: visual arts management, media management and performing arts management. In addition to completing coursework relevant to their chosen concentration, all students take general entertainment and arts management courses and complete general education requirements. Students complete two three-month internship experiences; it is suggested to complete the internships in the summer months between semesters.
