The Austin Community College Department of Hospitality, Event Planning, Tourism and Culinary Arts offers certificates and associate of applied science degrees in travel and tourism. Both programs provide real-world and laboratory experiences as well as coursework. Graduates will be prepared to work in a variety of industries, including tour operations, travel agencies, casinos, ski resorts and amusement parks. Required courses include group tour operations, travel industry management, computers in hospitality and a three-credit internship experience.

Scottsdale Community College’s Hospitality and Tourism Management program offers an Associate of Applied Sciences degree and a Certificate of Completion in tourism development and management. Coursework includes a focus on business administration topics such as accounting, economics, human resources, information marketing, management and technology. Required courses include events management, tourism principles and practices, and ecotourism. The associate degree requires 64 credits and generally takes two years to complete.

Genesee Community College’s Tourism and Hospitality Management program offers training in fields such as event planning, conferences, conventions, gaming, airlines, food and recreation. Key features of the program include hands-on experience with event planning, including a student-developed 1,300-guest reception; professional internships with hotels, restaurants and attractions including Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida; and a travel club that provides travel experience. The Tourism Management track requires coursework in tourism geography, event management, marketing and sales. Genessee’s program takes two years to complete and prepares students for transfer to a four-year college.
